As I prepared to teach journalism for the second year in a row I knew that things had to change. You see, last year was my very first year teaching journalism. Ever. As many teachers do, in order to survive, I took it week by week. I pillaged through the curriculum and did my best to work with the 13 total students I had. When I was told in late June of 2014 that I would be teaching 4 sections of journalism with many more students than the previous school year I knew right away my old approach would not suffice.

I decided immediately that we needed to be a published newspaper. I thought long and hard about the organization of the class, how often we would print the paper, and what it would be like to hand out our newspaper. Each month we would hand deliver our labor of love. We would place a crisp, hot off the press, vocabulary abundant, thought provoking filled newspaper to each every student. And then I pictured what that future would really look like. Newspapers scattered on the hallway floors. Newspapers bent, twisted, and torn lying underneath desks. Newspapers spilling out of garbage cans.

That nightmare would not become a reality if Mrs. Franco had anything to say about it. And so with hat in hand (and lots of compliments) I asked Ms. Dobson and Ms. O’Neill if they would consider funding an online newspaper. An online newspaper that could be accessed with ease. One that could not be thrown to the side or worse…drawn on! No. This online newspaper would be the way of the future. It would be online! It would be chic, it would be cool, it would be the new Instagram! Well…a teacher can dream.

So here we are, Infinity Institute. Our very first edition of our very first online newspaper. In the words of the class of 2014…history has been made.
