The most subscribed person on YouTube is a nazi and anti-semitic? That’s what they want you to believe! The Wall Street Journal released an article on February 12th calling out PewDiePie’s “multiple anti-semitic posts” by taking the dark humor and skits from his videos out of context with the motive of misrepresenting him.

Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, also known as PewDiePie, is a Swedish gamer and comedian that started a channel on YouTube in 2011. He rose to fame around 2013 for playing video games and commentating on them and in 2014, he became the top most subscribed channel on YouTube.

Currently, PewDiePie has over 53 million subscribers and gets millions of views on every video. His popularity with his audience, also known as the “Bro Army,” comes from his funny commentary over his videos and his jokes, which at times can be dark.

As a public figure, Mr. Kjellberg has raised money for charity through video game streams and conventions. With the help of other YouTubers, he raised millions of dollars for multiple charities including RED, an organization that focuses on fighting AIDS.

Felix and his friends, Mark Fischbach, known as Markiplier, and Seán McLoughlin, known as Jacksepticeye, raised 1.3 million dollars for charity last Christmas. After the charity stream, “Cringemas,” PewDiePie tweeted, “We raised $1300000 to RED with cringemas!!!! Thank you all for donating! That’s a huge impact!”

This previous year, PewDiePie had problems with the media. Small media outlets wrote multiple clickbait articles that misrepresented him. Usually, he would just ignore them, however, the media has been increasingly calling him out lately, especially for his dark humor.

Following this outbreak, PewDiePie started making fun of the way the media has been misrepresenting him. In his YouTube “Response” video, he stated, “I literally said the media is stupid, and that clickbait media is a huge problem because all they really need is a strong title and that’s all that really matters. I’m just a guy…. So what am I supposed to do about this? Well, I make fun of it.”

He continued showing how the media illustrated him by doing small skits of being a “nazi.”

Although his audience is used to his type of humor, others aren’t. Headlines of small news websites claimed that PewDiePie is “a nazi, an anti-Semite, and a complete racist.” After being notified, PewDiePie started joking about the silliness and free time of the media.

In January of 2017, PewDiePie released a video mocking a website called “Fiverr.” This website allows anyone to do absolutely anything in exchange for 5 pounds. To show the corruption of this website, PewDiePie paid two guys 5 pounds, without any expectations, to say “Death to all Jews, Subscribe to Keemstar!” Shockingly, the two guys did it and that joke was one of PewDiePie’s biggest mistakes.

However, this backfired on him when one of the most credible news organizations, The Wall Street Journal, released an article with the headline, “Disney Severs Ties With YouTube Star PewDiePie After Anti-Semitic Posts.” In Rolfe Winkler, Jack Nicas and Ben Fritz’s “factual article,” they explained that PewDiePie showed signs and “imagery” of anti-semitic and racist behavior in the previous 9 months.

“How is this news? This is insane,” humorously claimed PewDiePie.

Whoever would see the short clips the Wall Street Journal provided would easily believe that he was anti-semitic because they trust them as a credible source of information.

Discovering the controversy, Disney decided to cut ties with PewDiePie to avoid being involved with him and YouTube canceled his YouTube Red Series, “Scare PewDiePie: Season 2,” for the same reason.

Whoever knows and watches PewDiePie daily, is fully knowledgeable that although the display of his intention was unprofessional and his dark joke went too far, he is not anti-semitic or racist.

PewDiePie stated in his response, “I do strongly believe that you joke about anything, but I also believe there is a right way and not the best way to joke about things… and I love to push boundaries but I would consider myself a ‘rookie’ comedian…”

In his YouTube “Response” video, Mr. Kjellberg apologizes for his amateur attempt at dark humor and offending many people. However, he followed by calling out the Wall Street Journal for misrepresenting him, taking the “anti-semitic skits and jokes” out of context and for launching a personal attack against him.

“I’m sure as you already know, the article came out from the Wall Street Journal basically accusing me of being an anti-Semite,” stated Mr. Kjellberg in that video.

He spoke about how the media likes to only write about stories that will interest people or in other words, clickbait articles.

“I literally raised millions of dollars for charity… that rarely ever spoken about….If there is anything I learned about the media from being a public figure, is how they blatantly misrepresent people for their own personal gain. Even viciously attack people, just to further themselves,” said PewDiePie.

With the controversy of “Nazi PewDiePie” growing, Mr. Felix’s YouTube friends, Markiplier, H3H3Productions, Philip Defranco, NigaHiga, and Jacksepticeye defended him in various direct and indirect ways. PewDiePie’s fans are also defending all across social media with the new hashtag “#IStandWithPewDiePie.”

Mr. Felix Kjellberg is continuing his fight against the media’s misrepresentation of public figures and encouraging others to do so as well.

“Old school media does not like internet personalities… because they’re scared of us. We have so much influence and such a large voice… and I don’t think they understand it. That’s why they keep this approach to us,” stated Mr. Kjellberg.

For his final statements of his response, PewDiePie addressed a message to the Wall Street Journal: “I’m still here… I’m still making videos. Nice try Wall Street Journal. Try again m************!”
